The Ghana Education Service (GES) has dismissed five (5) female students of Chiana SHS in the Kassena Nankana West District of the Upper East Region who were captured in a viral video insulting President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.
Students who had been suspended due to the video have now had letters sent to their guardians dismissing them for their misbehavior.
The GES explained that they were fired for behavior that was “very undesirable, and contrary to the acceptable standards of the conduct generally required of any student in Ghana’s educational system.”
The dismissal letter, dated November 29, 2022, and signed by the Director General of the GES, Dr Eric Nkansah, requested that guardians ensure that their wards return all school property to the school before leaving for good.
In November of last year, female students in a video that went viral on social media hurled insults at the President, accusing him, among other things, of causing economic hardship.
Many people were outraged by the situation and demanded harsh punishment for them. Child Rights International had previously warned against victimization. Many, however, demanded the most severe punishment for them.
