In a tragic boat disaster on the Black Volta in the Savannah Region of Ghana, one person has lost their life, and approximately 50 others are currently missing.
The incident occurred when a boat carrying passengers from Dorkorchina to Kpandai capsized, allegedly due to overloading.
Mr. Kipo Sulemana, the Bole District Director of the National Disaster Management Organization (NADMO), confirmed the incident to the Ghana News Agency in Tamale on Saturday.
According to him, out of the individuals on board, one person has been reported dead, while two others managed to survive. Unfortunately, around 50 individuals remain unaccounted for.
NADMO’s investigation into the incident revealed that the boat was carrying an excessive number of passengers and goods, which likely contributed to the tragic event. Additionally, the boat collided with tree stumps in the river, causing it to capsize.
The location where the disaster occurred is described as inaccessible, making rescue efforts challenging.NADMO has been relying on assistance from local residents to aid in the search and rescue operation for those who are still missing.
