Samuel Dubik Mahama, the head of the ECG, has verified that ex-President John Dramani Mahama settles his own power bills.
In September 2022, supporters of the NPP criticized Mr Mahama after he revealed that he covers all his bills including power and water bills.
“I only get my regular pension like President Kufuor and President Rawlings used to get before he passed away. That is all I receive.
“I settle the power bill for my home and my office, I settle the water bill for my home and my office. I stay in my own place so the State does not give me anything for accommodation,” Mr Mahama said in a conversation with TV3.
We gather the bills of the ex-Presidents and take them to the Chief of Staff for payment. Former President Kufour’s bills were with us. We’ve handed them over to the Chief of Staff, and she has dealt with them. We also had ex-President John Mahama’s own… We contacted him, and we found out that he has already been settling his own bills. So going forward, we will talk to him so that his bills will be covered,” he said.
Mr Dubik Mahama added that the error is “from my office…we have now put measures in place after a very thorough discussion with the Chief of Staff. She told us what she thinks and told us exactly what we have to do. If we were doing our work well, this would not have occurred in the first place”.
