The exclusion of pension funds from the domestic debt restructuring program will cost the government money, according to Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta.
He was speaking at the signing of an agreement between the government and organized labor.
On Thursday, organized labor reached an agreement with the government to exempt pension funds from the government’s domestic debt restructuring program.
Dr Yaw Baah, Secretary General of the Trade Union Congress (TUC), announced this at a press conference in Accra on Thursday, saying the organization has therefore called off its planned strike for December 27, 2022.
“We are pleased to inform you that the government has agreed to exempt all pension funds from the domestic debt restructuring this afternoon.”
The Finance Minister, on the other hand, stated that the government will work as a social partner with organized labor to get the economy back on track.
