Nuhu Seidu, 23, was fined for assaulting a male nurse at Grupe, a farming community in the West Gonja Municipality of the Savannah region.
The suspect was fined GH3,400 by the Bole district magistrate Court, presided over by His Worship Edward Essel, and must serve 12 months in prison if he does not pay the fine.
The accused, a first-time offender, must pay Gh1,000.00 in compensation to the victim and GH2,400 to the court.
While delivering his statement, the judge stated that the sentence is intended to serve as a deterrent to others, particularly those in rural areas who take the law into their own hands and assault government officials who are assigned to various communities to provide services.
Meanwhile, workers at the Grupe CHPS compound have threatened to close the facility due to the attacks, citing the fact that this is not the first time a health worker has been attacked.
