The Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) has launched an investigation into an alleged assault on a young man by Customs personnel.
A video circulating on social media shows people dressed in Customs uniforms and driving a Customs vehicle assaulting a young man by the roadside.
In a press statement, the Authority condemned the incident and promised that those found responsible would face severe punishment.
“Management of the GRA has reviewed the video recording and would like to share the following information: Investigations into the alleged incident have begun,” it said.
“The incident has also been reported to the Police Service, and the Authority is collaborating with the Police to deal with the situation,” the statement continued. The appropriate sanctions would be meted out to the persons found culpable of the assault”.
“We wish to condemn this unfortunate situation and to take this opportunity to urge the general public to report such acts or incidents to the Authority for prompt redress.”
The GRA also assured the public that it will continue to carry out its mandate of revenue mobilization, public safety, and national security with the utmost professionalism.
