Newcomer Tems, a singer from Nigeria, made history at the 2023 Grammy Awards when she received her first Grammy for being a member of the Best Melodic Rap Performance winning team.
Temilade Openiyi, a Nigerian musician better known as Tems in the entertainment industry, has won her first Grammy for her work on Future’s hit single “Wait For U.”
Both Tems and Burna Boy were nominated for this year’s awards, but Burna Boy’s hopes of adding another Grammy trophy to his collection were dashed when he missed out on both nominations for his performances of “Last Last” and “Love, Damini” in the categories for Best Global Song and Best Global Album, respectively.
The winning song, “Wait For U,” features the Tems and Drake
The news was received with joy by Tems’ supporters, who have followed her career since the release of “Essence” with WizKid. Thanks to the Future and Drake duet on the brand-new song “Wait for U,” which quickly won over the public’s hearts, her already-rising popularity increased.
Tems, who was thrilled about her historic victory, thanked her fans on social media.
“I am overjoyed beyond words to receive this honour. I want to thank everyone who has helped me along this journey.
