Engineers from the Ghana GRID Company (GRIDCo) are working to restore normal power supply following a system disruption on Saturday (January 14, 2023).
According to a press release from GRIDCo, the power line trips were caused by a raging bush fire under its high voltage lines near Tarkwa.
Some parts of the Greater Accra Region, Central Region, Oti Region, Western Region, Volta Region, and Ashanti Region have reported power outages.
“The outage occurred after GRIDCo’s 330kV Aboadze – Anwomaso line tripped, followed by a number of lines in the grid’s western corridor triggering a system disturbance, causing all thermal plants, Bui generators, and customer loads to trip,” the electricity transmission company said in a press release.
“A raging bushfire under GRIDCo’s high-voltage lines near Tarkwa has been identified as the source of the power line trips. Tarkwa Goldfields has dispatched a fire tender to put out the fire.
“Meanwhile, grid restoration began immediately, and efforts to restore power to all affected areas and customers are ongoing. GRIDCO sincerely apologises for any inconvenience this incident has caused and is working to restore normal power supply “.
