Three suspects have been arrested as a result of police intelligence operations for their involvement in a mobile money robbery at Kasoa on December 20, 2022.
According to police investigations, the suspects attacked and shot a mobile money merchant at his business center while armed with a pump-action gun concealed in a baby diaper sack.
“As the victim attempted to flee for his life, the suspects pursued him, shot him from behind, and robbed him of an unspecified amount of money,” police said in a statement.
Police investigation and intelligence operations resulted in the recovery of a pump-action rifle and the arrest of suspects Michael Otu, alias Rider, Godfred Okine, and Asaa Faisal, alias Commander, who has been described by the other suspects as the mastermind behind the robbery and provides weapons to the gang.
According to police, suspect Godfred Okine later complained of illness and was rushed to the hospital, but died while receiving treatment.
His body has been placed in the morgue of the police hospital for preservation and autopsy.
The Police Professional Standards Bureau (PPSB) conducted an initial investigation into his death and determined that the deceased suspect was handled professionally by officers from the time he was arrested until his death.
As part of its investigation, the PPSB has also contacted the deceased suspect’s family.
