Following the release of the FIFA/Coca-Cola World Ranking, Morocco has surpassed Senegal to become Africa’s best team.
The Atlas Lions are currently ranked 11th in the world, while the Teranga Lions are ranked 19th after losing to England in the last 16 of the 2022 World Cup.
Morocco made history by becoming the first African country to qualify for the final four of the global showpiece, but they were defeated by the defending champions, France.
They were defeated once more by Croatia, which won the play-offs on Saturday. Croatia took the lead after seven minutes thanks to Josko Gvardiol, but Achraf Dari equalized just two minutes later. Three minutes before halftime, Mislav Orsic restored Croatia’s lead.
The North African country is one of the biggest climbers, having risen 11 places with Australia.
Both countries outperformed significantly; however, this is not Morocco’s highest-ever ranking; they were 10th in 1998 and as recently as 2015, they were as low as 92nd.
