32-year-old Shadrack Arloo was due to depart for Germany on Tuesday, but he passed away 24 hours before that trip as a result of an encounter with police.
At the West Hills Mall in Accra, Shadrack Arloo was allegedly killed by the said policemen, who were aided by alleged private security guards.
On Monday afternoon, it happened near the mall’s parking lot (January 30, 2023).
Shadrack went to the mall to shop, according to Graphic Online’s interview with his sister Perpetual Didier, a gospel singer.
He had gone to buy some items for his older sister that he would need to bring with him to Germany.
On his way out of the mall, he was reportedly confronted by the four police officers and the private guards.
He claims that the policemen demanded his luggage so they could search it.
According to some eyewitnesses, he rejected and insisted on not doing so, fearing that the police would plant something in it to incriminate him.
According to the sister, the family has been informed by eyewitnesses that Shadrack insisted he was prepared to accompany them to the closest police station so they could search his bag if they truly wanted to.
This led to an altercation, during which Shadrack reportedly received beatings and tasers, ultimately killing him.
The body has since been placed at the Police Hospital mortuary in Accra, and the case has since been reported to the SCC Police station.
Perpetual stated that Shadrack had completed all of his paperwork and was prepared to travel to Germany on Tuesday, January 31, 2023, to meet up with his sister.
The Police are yet to comment on the situation.
