Sarkodie, Ghana’s most decorated artist, has outlined the key factors that have kept his name and brand in an enviable position for the past ten years.
“I’ve been able to find the right people at the right time, having the love for music, being yourself, and also having the grace of God,” says Michael Owusu Addo, professionally known as Sarkodie.
Sarkodie started out as an underground rapper, competing in Adom FM’s popular rap competition ‘Kasahare Level.’
While competing in the aforementioned competition, he ran into his former manager, Duncan Williams. He also met musicians Edem and Castro, who introduced him to Hammer, a well-known record producer from The Last Two.
Sarkodie is now a household name in Ghana’s entertainment industry, having released more than five albums.
Sarkodie is frequently referred to as one of Africa’s greatest hip-hop artists. MTV Base ranked him sixth on its list of the Hottest African MCs in 2014. The Guardian named him one of the top five hip-hop acts on the African continent in 2015.
He was also ranked eighth on Forbes and Channel O’s lists of the Top 10 Richest/Bankable African Artistes in 2013 and 2015.
