A soldier from the 3rd Battalion Infantry in Sunyani is said to have been killed on Friday in Tafia, an Ashaiman neighbourhood in the Greater Accra area.
Imoro Sheriff, 21, allegedly visited his girlfriend nearby before being killed by a gang.
Immediately after leaving the girlfriend’s house, Imoro—whose rank could not be immediately confirmed—was attacked with knives and other weapons.
Every time Imoro visited Ashaiman, where he was born and raised, it was rumoured that he would pay the girlfriend a visit.
The mourners were in a state of shock when the Ghanaian Times visited the family home of Imoro on Monday in the Ashaiman suburb of Zongolika.
Asanubu Imoro, the deceased’s father, confirmed the death of his son and claimed to have learned about it on social media.
The son, who was based in Sunyani, Bono Region, informed Asanubu Imoro that he was attending a military programme in Accra and would be visiting family members on Friday, according to Asanubu Imoro.
“We were expecting him. When we called his number late into the night, there was no response. Somebody showed me a video and asked, do you know this man, that was when I identified my son.”
According to Asanubu Imoro, the military and other security agency have been in close contact with the family as investigation into the killing was on going.
When the Ghanaian Times contacted the Ashaiman Divisional Police Command concerning the incident, the authorities declined to speak on the matter, but indicated that 13 suspects had been arrested so far.
