The Ghana Education Service (GES) has issued a warning to Senior High School heads who charge unapproved fees to first-year students.
Such heads will be sanctioned, according to the statement, because the acts are illegal and will not be tolerated.
Parents have complained about unapproved school fees and items not approved in the prospectus for new students.
Journalists in Accra were informed by Cassandra Twum Ampofo, Chief of Public Affairs of the Ghana Education Service, that school administrators who violate rules will face harsh disciplinary action.
Of the 547,329 applicants that wrote the BECE, 538,399 were eligible for school placement.
Candidates were automatically placed to 372,780 different schools.
Unfortunately, because they could not be matched to their preferred school, 165,601 candidates had to self-place.
