A 42-year-old man in Techiman traditional area in the Bono East Region had a near-fatal experience when he was viciously attacked by a group on suspicion of being homosexual.
The victim, Isaac Osae Adum, was apparently long suspected of being gay by his friends because he had never had a girlfriend and only kept male friends, despite his denials.
When one of his childhood friends unexpectedly visited him at his house and took a photo of the two together, he caught him in an uncompromising position with another man.
He then wasted no time in spreading the word and sharing the photo of the two men in a romantic position with the rest of the community.
This infuriated the youth because homosexuality is against their tradition and strongly condemned.
The enraged youth marched to Adum’s house, armed with various weapons, and beat Adum severely in his own home.
Before being rushed to the hospital, he was only saved by some good samaritans who couldn’t take the beatings any longer.
It didn’t stop there, as they warned him to leave the community and have been harassing him and his family ever since, to the point where he has openly considered suicide.
“I was present when they beat him, and I’d never seen a thief beaten and heckled like that before. He was begging for his life, pleading with them that it wasn’t true he was gay, but this seemed to enrage the enraged youth even more “said a bystander.
“I feel so sorry for him because I don’t think he can sleep at night because people sometimes keep banging and throwing things at his window during the night, threatening him and harassing him,” the eyewitness continued.
