Kudjoe Fianoo, Chairman of the Ghana League Club Association [GHALCA], has confirmed that his organization will organize a Top 4 pre-season tournament for clubs rather than a Top 6 tournament as previously reported.
Before each new season, GHALCA has organized a tournament for clubs that finished in the top four of the Ghana Premier League.
In the past, the tournament served as a training ground for clubs that will represent the country in Africa.
In the previous season, Asante Kotoko, Medeama SC, Bechem United, and Karela United finished in the top four.
However, the debate has shifted after Hearts of Oak failed to finish in the top four but won the FA Cup, defeating Bechem United to claim the trophy.
With Samuel Boadu and his charges set to represent the country in the 2022/23 CAF Confederations Cup, it has been argued that Hearts of Oak, who finished sixth with 48 points, and Great Olympics, who finished fifth, must be included in the pre-season tournament, bringing the total to six.
However, in an interview, Kudjoe Fianoo stated unequivocally that only the top four clubs will compete in the pre-season tournament.
Despite representing the country in Africa, Hearts of Oak will be excluded from the pre-season tournament as a result of this decision.
Meanwhile, Asante Kotoko, the winner of the Ghana Premier League in 2021/22, will represent the country in the CAF Champions League.
